While previous models bearing the “Frontier” nameplate were sold under different designations in world markets, the third-generation ‘D41’ Frontier is exclusive to the North American market. First announced in February 2021, the new Frontier brought significant updates to its predecessor which had been in production since 2004. Available with rear or four wheel drive, an extended or crew cab, and a short or long bed, there’s a Frontier for nearly any mid-size truck buyer.

The top-level trim for the Frontier is the PRO-4X. Pairing comforts of the SV with the off-road upgrades of the PRO-X, the PRO-4X shows off Lava Red accents and 17-inch dark-finish alloy wheels along with a two-speed transfer case, electronic locking rear differential, and front/rear skid plates for go-anywhere capability. Interior comforts and standard safety equipment abound, especially when combined with the available Technology and Convenience packages. All told, the current Frontier is a well-designed contender for mid-size truck excellence.
